A calm space to explore and make sense of things
Many people keep going day to day while quietly carrying a weight inside. You might be juggling family life, work pressures or relationships, while feeling anxious, low in confidence, or simply worn down.
You might notice yourself feeling irritable, short of patience, or easily pushed over the edge. Or perhaps life feels as though it’s asking more of you than you have to give.
Sometimes there’s no single reason, just a sense that something doesn’t feel quite right, and you find yourself wondering, “Is this it? Is this how life will always feel?”
Counselling can be a space to pause, breathe, and begin to make sense of things.
Kathryn Buchanan
I’m Kathryn, a therapist offering a calm and reflective space to explore what’s going on for you.
My way of working is shaped by person-centred and psychodynamic ideas, but more than anything, it’s about getting to know you and what feels helpful for you. I aim to offer a space where you can feel heard, understood, and able to make sense of things in your own way.

Alongside my therapy work, I work as a researcher and have a PhD in psychology. I’ve also spent a number of years teaching psychology, and this continues to shape how I think about people and the importance of understanding each person’s experience in their own context.
I completed my training with a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in line with their ethical framework.
I have experience working with adults across a range of issues, including anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, and feeling stuck or overwhelmed.

I offer a calm, thoughtful space where you can feel heard and understood. In the early stages, I focus on getting to know you and being a steady, supportive presence.
As trust builds, I may gently reflect patterns or ways of being that I notice, giving you the chance to see yourself with fresh eyes. Sometimes that means gentle challenge, but always with care.
Therapy can sometimes be hard work, but there can also be moments of lightness and even laughter along the way.
Over time, people often find that things begin to feel a little lighter. Situations that once felt overwhelming can become more manageable, and reactions that used to feel immediate or intense can soften.
Many people come to understand themselves in a different way, with more compassion and less self-criticism. They begin to let go of old patterns or narratives that no longer feel helpful, and find a new way of being that feels steadier and more in line with who they are.
